Custom Heat Transfers & DTF Printing in Western North Carolina
Not every custom apparel project calls for screen printing or embroidery — and that's where heat-applied transfers shine. Heat transfers give you the flexibility to print full-color, detailed designs on any garment in any quantity, with low minimums and no setup fees per color.
At Thread It & Print, we offer DTF (Direct to Film) transfers and other heat-applied transfer options for businesses, teams, schools, and individuals. It's one of the most flexible decoration methods we offer — perfect for small runs, and designs with lots of colors or fine detail.
What heat transfers are great for:
-
Small quantity orders (12+ pieces) where screen printing isn't cost-effective
-
Full-color, photographic, or gradient designs
-
Names and numbers on jerseys and team apparel
-
Mixed sizes in a single order (no need for matching quantities by size)
-
Fan gear, spirit wear, and event shirts
-
Custom patches and labels
What is DTF printing?
DTF (Direct to Film) is the newest and most popular heat transfer technology. Designs are printed in full color onto a special film, coated with a powder adhesive, and then heat-pressed onto the garment. The result is a soft, vibrant, durable print that adheres to virtually any fabric — including cotton, polyester, blends, nylon, and more. Unlike older vinyl transfers, DTF prints can include fine detail, gradients, and even photographic images with no visible edge lines.
How durable are heat transfers?
Our heat-applied transfers are built to last. When applied correctly and cared for properly (wash inside-out in cold water, tumble dry low), DTF transfers maintain their color and quality for at least 50 regular washing.
Which method is right for me?
Not sure whether to choose screen printing, embroidery, or heat transfers? Here's a quick guide:
-
Screen printing — best for 12+ pieces, simple bold designs, budget-friendly bulk orders

Embroidery — best for a premium, textured look on hats, polos, and professional wear
-
